In April of 2001 my parents came to America for the first time, coping was not an easy task, for they have lived and served Mosul and its people for the majority of their lives. You would see them present but emotionally they are thousand miles away. They never ceased thinking of the home they left and the loved ones that they miss.
For many nights passing by their room, I used to hear them talking, as if they are reminding each other of every single detail about Mosul and the families that lived within. Names like “Majjoda Al Majnouni, Sit Terma, beit El Faransawe, Aboudi Tamboaghachy, and many others, were almost deleted from my over loaded memory.
Around that time the need to document all that arose, father, Behnam Habbaba, started writing relying on his wide information and great relationship with all (Maslawees) His first book in that matter was published in 2012 (the Christian families of Mosul) carrying over 600 family names, with as many details and memories he could provide.
Then in the summer of 2014 (DAISH- ISIS) took over Mosul and Nineveh plains. Christians of Mosul were offered three choices; convert to Islam, Pay (Al Jezya- Tribute to ISIS) or leave, with nothing but the clothes on their backs, thousands upon thousands of Christian families had to fled Mosul, leaving behind everything, houses, money, lands, furniture, books, photos.
The need to preserve all that heritage was my biggest motivation to launch this site and App. Depending on the books my father wrote, I thought that we can create virtual place where we can first keep all these names and to enrich and increase them. To be a book that all our fellow Maslawes would have the chance to write on. I wanted to be the book that has thousands of authors.
That definitely would have not been possible without the great help pf my dear friend Ms. Lara Yaldo, the genius engineer, who transferred my dream into reality, after many years of hard work, we are now proud to present the first and only App that contains almost all the names of the Christian families of Mosul and varieties of other subjects, wishing that you all enjoy and benefit from.
For the Love of Mosul and its people, we did this
